OMG – Letter from Jack Fisher to Winston Churchill in 1917
Have you ever wondered where OMG the much used acronym comes from? The expression that is so loved by many modern-day teenagers – in fact by us all?
The expression originates from Admiral John Fisher, the 19th century navy reformer, whose passionate letter writing and correspondence with politicians and royalty changed the course of the British Navy and the WW1.
It was penned by Fisher in a letter to Churchill in 1917 ‘O.M.G, (Oh! My God!) Shower it on the Admiralty.’ You can read the full letter in this blog.
These two fascinating renowned letter writers had the foresight and knew they would be judged and examined for generations to come.
Fisher knew the power of words and continued to write his expressive, impassioned, energetic letters until his death in 1920.
